No matter where we play or who we play music for, there is always the question…

"What label are you on?" or "Are you signed?"

And how much would it cost to "break" a new artist with a major Record Label?

Oh, just only about a few hundred thousand dollars.

If you want to go big time, you will need to handle the business of publishing, marketing, touring, and etc.

For aspiring musicians, singers/songwriters, producers who are trying to make a name for themselves; the future is bright. Our generation’s new found wealth of technology in digital music has and will perpetually change and expand its availability to us. The Internet can now network and promote music online such as Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, iTunes, and many more.

So do today’s artists need a record label? The answer is No! You can do it all yourself!

1. Make Your Own Studio

Music can now be made in the comfort of our own home. With an average-priced microphone and computer, music can be made to a professional standard if they are used correctly. Remember, it’s more about the ears and less about the gears. Otherwise, good music would be coming from everywhere.

And the best part of having your own studio is, labels no longer have total control in the creative process of recording your music!

2. Publishing and Distribution Deals

Companies like Distrophonix can help you sell your music online through iTunes, Napster, eMusic, Amazon and hundreds of others

3. Hard Work Ethics

Every year, more and more musicians are making it in the entertainment business without getting signed to a record label. Just love what you do and devote yourself to the challenge and most importantly remember to promote yourself non stop.
